Brașov Comprehensive and Compassionate Response to Welcome Refugees

Summary

Brasov pledges to continue the activities of the KATYA Welcome Centre.

The municipality of Brasov established a dedicated Welcome Center, a one-stop shop providing immediate assistance to arriving refugees. The center serves as a hub for streamlined registration, offering essential services.

Currently, the centre operates with the involvement of 10 associations and foundations from Brasov, which provide educational services for children, support in finding a job, mental health assistance, and psycho-social support and provide interpreters for refugees from Ukraine so they can access medical services. The hub currently has around 500 beneficiaries.

With this center, Brasov:

  • Demonstrates a whole of society approach by coordinating with local NGOs and international agencies, fostering partnerships to efficiently deliver aid and support.
  • Sets up innovative initiatives, including language and vocational training programs tailored to the specific needs of the displaced population.
  • Sets up transparent communication initiatives so that both refugees and the local population are well-informed about the ongoing efforts and the importance of fostering unity, ultimately combating xenophobia and discrimination.

With this pledge, Brasov showcases a deep-seated commitment to upholding the dignity and well-being of those seeking refuge within its borders.
