Bucharest's Comprehensive Public Policy for Refugee and Migrant Integration

Summary

The Municipality of Bucharest commits to support migrants and refugees by facilitating their access to services such as healthcare, education, and integration into our labor market.

In the wake of the conflict in Ukraine, Bucharest established a humanitarian corridor for Ukrainian refugees, offering immediate assistance that encompassed shelter, sustenance, and clothing.  This humanitarian effort underscored the need for a comprehensive public policy that supports the inclusion of refugees and migrants into the local community. Bucharest is now developing a comprehensive public policy that will facilitate access to education, employment services, housing, and medical care.

In addition, the city also partners with the private sector to promote diversity and actively removes barriers and stereotypes that can lead to the marginalization of migrants and refugees.

The city also encourages migrants and refugees to participate in volunteering activities. This engagement will not only empower them but also lead to a more active and inclusive community.

And lastly, the city is working to create a communication hub to develop effective communication strategies that will benefit migrants and promote social values within the city.

To finance these projects, we are exploring both the City Hall’s budget and grants option.
